The Empower Hour is an out of school time (OST) youth development program designed to equip young people of all genders with the confidence, skills, and support needed to become leaders in their communities. Rooted in equitable partnerships yielding sustainable results, The Empower Hour creates a safe, engaging environment where youth are empowered to explore leadership, service, and problem solving while building self esteem and resilience.

Through interactive workshops, community service projects, and community based discussions, the Empower Hour addresses critical issues impacting youth today including substance misuse, underage drinking, and teen pregnancy while fostering positive decision making, healthy relationships, and civic responsibility.

Program Description

The Empower Hour provides a structured yet dynamic space for youth to grow socially, emotionally, and civically. Participants engage in weekly sessions that blend leadership development, prevention, education, and hands on community service. The program emphasizes voice, agency, and belonging, ensuring every participant feels seen, valued, and capable of effecting change.

Key focus areas include:

  • Youth Empowerment & Self Esteem Building
Activities and discussions that strengthen confidence, identity, and purpose, helping youth recognize their value and potential.

  • Leadership Development
Skill building in communication, teamwork, decision making, and accountability, preparing youth to lead in school, community, and future careers.

  • Community Organizing & Problem Solving
Youth learn how to identify real issues in their communities, collaborate on solutions, and take action through service based initiatives.

  • Prevention & Healthy Choices
Evidence informed conversations and activities aimed at reducing substance use, alcohol misuse, and teen pregnancy by promoting informed choices, goal setting, and future planning while also introducing physical fitness and healthy coping skills.

  • Community Service & Civic Engagement
Participants engage in meaningful service projects that connect personal growth to community impact, reinforcing responsibility, empathy, and collective care.

The Empower Hour is intentionally inclusive and trauma informed, recognizing that many youth are navigating complex personal and environmental challenges. By combining prevention, empowerment, and service, the program supports whole child development while contributing to healthier, more resilient communities.
